a few weeks ago i started telling hazel about halloween & how you dress-up & go get candy. i told her she could be whatever she wanted. at first she chose a grasshopper. then i told her that what she choose, she couldn't change her mind because mommy was gonna work on her costume. so she thought about it & she chose ....
a guitar.
anders was a guitar last year for halloween, which gave her the idea.
that's right, she actually insisted for weeks on being a guitar.
me: hazel, you have this Pocahontas costume, you could be Pocahontas for halloween
hazel: no, i wanna be a guitar
me: hazel, you have this cheerleader costume, oooohhh why don't you be a cheerleader for halloween, wouldn't that be so fun?!
hazel: no, mama, i'm gonna be a guitar...my friends can play me
so, because i am so in love with that quirky fun & creative little girl, i became susie homemaker & made my daughter a guitar costume. poster paper, markers, popsicle sticks, glue & shoelaces...all that we had in the craft box:)
for anders i got a clifford costume at the thrift store that was supposed to be for 2-4 year olds but since he is 21 months & bigger than most 2, 3 & 4 year olds it was a bit snug. he was pulling at the sleeves at started to cry in the car, so i ripped the sleeves a little & clifford was much more comfortable & happy.
so, the fayetteville town square has trick or treating in the afternoon. we have been the last few years & it's very fun & very chaotic. matt had a meeting so i went solo, which means there are not many pictures. we met our friends, the brills, there & walked around with them for a little while.
clifford & the guitar walking towards the square. we trick or treated a few businesses, then hazel saw someone dressed as the grim reaper & got super spooked. she pointed to the town center & said frantically, "i need to go potty, let's go potty". so we escaped the crowds & hazel's extreme dislike for the scary costumes & went to the town center.
loving being a guitar!
all anders kept doing everywhere --middle of the street, middle of a crowd & even here in the ladies bathroom-- was sitting down, to play with & eat his candy. it was hilarious.
i tried so hard to get a good picture of the kiddos together, but clifford was not having it! he hasn't learned sit yet apparently.
after dinner (& the failed attempt at a posed pic), we trick-or-treated in our neighborhood. this was so fun! last year we met so many of our neighbors on halloween...in fact, we met our architect who designed the house addition:) this year was no different, we joined in with a few families & met some new neighbors with clifford & the guitar. when we came back home some of our neighbors that we've only chatted with a few times came in & hung out for a while at our house.
every house we had to remind hazel to say "trick or treat" & every house she instead would say "can i have candy, please?"
anders, once again, stopping to go through his pumpkin.
checking out the goods after a really fun & exhausting halloween!

i wanted to go back & remember the last few halloweens around the mooney house...it all goes so fast!

2009, hazel the ladybug (1 year, mom on bedrest)
2010, anders the guitar (9 months) & hazel the peacock (2 years)
