on that trip when we met lena for the first time, something else was going on. the presence of the loving living God among what the world deems lowly, His esteemed. an orphanage in ukraine, holy ground.
abby was there to do occupational therapy with orphans with special needs. to train & educate orphanage workers to care for children with special needs. and with those that have no mother, seeds of motherhood were planted in abby. she worked with nastia & then began to advocate for her. i saw her cry & boldy say "praise God" when they agreed to help nastia further.
a few months later, abby was coming to our home a few times a week to be Lena's occupational therapist. she walked in on a thursday & said, "i have news". i didn't even look up. i continued feeding lena her snack so that she wouldn't be hungry during therapy. focused.
then she says, "daniel & i are adopting nastia" & i drop the spoon as tears fall.
nastia will become eva claire. a husband and wife will become parents for the first time & there will be one less orphan in the world. a beautiful one that He will place in a family, just as He promises.
they hope to travel soon to bring her home. and i can say from experience that all that it takes to bring her home, costs just a few dollars. matt & i are honored to be a part of their story by helping in this arena.
