the first few days here have been more wild than expected. long difficult toddler days.
it's been almost a week since lena's eye surgery & she is just so so tough. i'm proud of her & there have been rough spots, but she has done & is doing amazingly well.
anders & hazel pushed through the drive to st louis, then slept good in the hotel & played great with friends & had fun at a zoo trip & then were amazing for 12 more hours in the car to northern michigan.
then we arrived & utter exhaustion from all that doing great caught up with them. it's been a bit rough (& by a bit I mean very) getting adjusted to a different space & just so many fun people & new things.
day 3 was the turning point, though. we are on day 4 now & everyone has caught up on some sleep & we are in as normal of a rhythm as can be expected. it's really beautiful here & really fun. it's a wonderfully unique summer spot. its difficult to describe to those who didn't play on these fields & ride bikes down to the beach to learn to swim in these waters. there's just something quite spectacular about bringing your children to the same place where you grew up. taking their pictures on the same shore where your grandfather had his baby pictures taken.
the nikon hasn't even been unpacked because i've just been too busy wrestling kids to nap in unknown beds & trying to figure out when to take hazel to the day camp & attempting to stop anders from loving his 4 month old baby cousin a little to much & chasing them all over. matt & I decided to halt social media over this vacation, but i have been trying to capture all the marvelous madness on instagram & the iPhone.
