2013 earbuds

2013 was a great year.  it really was for us mooneys.  in 12 months it seems as if we went from barely surviving to almost thriving.  i think i got my head above water enough to think through those things that are life-giving to me.  and for me, it's the simple things.  something like putting earbuds in for a while, whether it's for a walk or jog or just while cleaning the house, it's like a re-charge.  here are some of the things that came through the earbuds in 2013.

the head and the heart
they put out a new album last fall that's pretty great.
here's one of my favorite songs:

will reagan and the united pursuit
i'm sure they've been around a while, but they popped up on my pandora during a jog and i haven't been the same since...lots of songs full of truth and hope, definitely some better than others, here's a great one. raw, real, desperation in this song:

hillsong
they came out with zion this year.  it's greatness.  oceans, mercy mercy.

 all sons and daughters
i can't remember when i discovered them...most likely in 2012, but they were a big part of my 2013, so they have to make the list.

ellie holcomb
a friend let me know about her & i just love her voice, lyrics and bluegrass-sound of her magnolia EP. she's been a part of the band, drew holcombe and the neighbors, with her husband and they are great too.  she recently got an album kickstarted so i think we'll be seeing/hearing more of her in the near future.

the civil wars
they came out with a new album called the civil wars.  it had a different feel from their previous music, but i really enjoyed it and glad they are back after what all the drama.

the lumineers
this is another one that is so 2012, but 2013 was a bit of catching up & re-entry into some things that had been put on the back burner.  i had heard hey-ho with the rest of the world, but in 2013 i discovered the rest of their album, the lumineers.  so good.  the perfect soundtrack to running trails through the bay view woods in michigan this past summer.
